Clear out the clutter.
It’s hard to feel relaxed and at-ease with clutter piled all around you. Spend a day putting everything you no longer need, use, or appreciate into boxes. Then, sort the items further into a box meant for donations and another meant for the trash. You can even let friends and family members know what you’re getting rid of and see if they’re interested in any of the items. You’ll enjoy the extra space this leaves!
Clean your air conditioner for greater.
Clean air conditioners do a better job of keeping your home cool, and they use less energy, too. Remove the cage from your outdoor air conditioner condenser (after turning off the power, of course) and then use a hose to spray down the unit. Let it dry, then put the cage back in place. Inside, you can locate the condensate drain line, a piece of clear tubing leading from your air conditioner coil to the drain. Pour some bleach into the condensate pan so that the next time the pump runs, the bleach gets pushed through the line, killing algae and bacteria.
Clean your cooling vent covers.
Clean vent covers will leave your home smelling fresher, and they’ll cut down on dust, too. The easiest way to clean vent covers is to just use the wand attachment on your vacuum and suck up all the dust. You can undo the screws, remove the covers, and wash them in the sink if you notice a lot of caked-on grime.
Make sure your ceiling fans are running counterclockwise.
If your ceiling fans are running clockwise, they are pulling air up towards the ceiling, rather than pushing it down on you. Switch the direction your fans are running for better airflow; you may be able to turn the thermostat up a couple of degrees and still be comfortable.
Adopt some indoor plants.
Indoor plants help keep your air clean and fresh. They also make a space feel more inviting and relaxing, which is important if you’re spending a lot of time at home these days. Spider plants, snake plants, and English ivy are all low-maintenance plants that do well indoors. This is a fun way to increase your home comfort.
Upgrade your window treatments.
Get rid of those blinds that you can barely close, stained curtains, or shades with broken rollers. Smart shades or smart blinds give you greater control, allowing you to adjust your view and the amount of sunlight coming in from your smartphone. Even if you’re not interested in “going smart,” replacing old window treatments will improve your home comfort and provide fresh, yet affordable appeal.
If you’re spending a lot of time at home, that home should be a comfortable space. Follow the tips above, and contact Hassle Free Home Services if you need help with any maintenance this summer.
